Except where modified by this Agreement, the document entitled "The Classification, Promotion Requirements and Salary Scale of Librarians", Appendix A of this Agreement, shall remain in force during the life of the Agreement.
The normal hours of work for librarians with regular full-time appointments shall total thirty-five (35) hours per week, which shall be scheduled on a fair and equitable basis to meet the operating needs of the Library.
A Librarian member with less than ten (10) years service shall be entitled to twenty-two (22) working days of vacation, without loss of pay, during each year of employment. After ten (10) years of service this entitlement becomes twenty-five (25) working days. Where the employment during the year is less than twelve (12) months, or on a part-time basis, such entitlements shall be pro-rated accordingly. The University Librarian shall schedule vacations in order to give the greatest possible consideration to the preferences of librarian members, taking into account the functioning of academic programs and the needs of students.
The provisions of IV.5 shall apply mutatis mutandis to librarians with the following exceptions:
A sabbatical for librarians shall be for a unit of six (6) or twelve (12) months. A six-month leave may be divided into two (2) units of three (3) months, provided that no librarians are thereby displaced, without their consent, from their place on the three-year plan.
Where the word "academic" is used in IV.5, when appropriate, the words "academic and professional" shall be substituted, and where the word "teaching" is used in IV.5, when appropriate, the words "professional activity" shall be substituted.
When a Librarian member receives a sabbatical leave that member shall be replaced (partially or in full) by at most the equivalent of one (1) full-time professional librarian. In the hiring of such a replacement, every effort shall be made to replace at a comparable level of training and experience. When this is not possible, an overlap period will be provided for training purposes.
The position of University Librarian, when vacant, shall be duly advertised in appropriate Canadian publications, including the CAUT Bulletin and Feliciter, and these shall be placed so as to allow sufficient time for applications to receive due consideration.
V.5.2
The University Librarian shall be appointed by the President on the advice of a Search Committee which shall include at least two (2) members who are librarians.
V.5.3
All candidates invited by the Search Committee for interview shall also meet librarian members.
V.5.4
The Search Committee shall consult with librarian members prior to making its recommendations to the President.
V.5.5
The position of University Librarian shall not be used for redeployment of faculty members unless the procedures as outlined above have first been carried to completion.
Where librarians are appointed to administrative office or as members of the Board of Governors and are excluded by definition from the bargaining unit, they shall be deemed eligible for consideration by the Library Personnel Committee, COAP, and the University Librarian for career development decisions, including merit awards, on the basis of their professional achievements over that period. Where an academic administrator or librarian member on the Board of Governors is awarded a merit award, such shall be in addition to the number provided for in III.9.2.1.
