Colleagues,

For those who are available to show their support for the members of CUPE 3205 on the Symons campus, there will be a rally today beginning at 11:30 am at the main Entrance to campus.  Even stopping by for 10 minutes over the lunch period and thanking members of 3205 for the important role they play at Trent would mean a great deal.

In Solidarity,
Marcus

Dear Colleagues,

There is still space for interested members to attend tomorrow’s Grievance Workshop at the Peterborough Golf and Country Club (Thursday December 14th beginning at 8:30 a.m. - breakfast provided). Thanks to those who have already confirmed their attendance – anyone else wanting to come should let us know before 4:00 pm this afternoon.

Consistent with the Association’s Constitution, the Executive Committee is working to expand and diversify our Grievance Committee. To this end, we will be hosting a half-day workshop open to any members interested in attending.  The workshop will include an overview of the grievance process from a Labour perspective, a discussion of grievance issues specific to the Academy (i.e. those involving peer review decisions or matters of collegial governance), and a close look at dispute resolution under our collective agreement and TUFA’s approach to it.

What: Grievance Workshop
When: December 14th, 8:30 am to 11:30 pm
Where: Peterborough Golf and Country Club (1030 Armour Rd.)

Attendees will be treated to a hot breakfast. Interested members should RSVP by December 8th to ensure there is enough gruel to go around.

In Solidarity,

Colleagues,

TUFA and its retirees have been remarkably receptive to this year's United Way (UW) charity appeal and we already have 11 TUFA pledges as UW Leaders ($1,200 – $1,499), 3 as Builders ($1,500 – $2,499), and 6 as Patrons (+$2,500). This is especially important in light of the impending layoff of production workers at General Electric which can be expected to result in a loss of UW revenue and increased demand for the services that UW funds.

Now we are hoping to fill the space behind our leadership pledges with a block of payroll commitments for 2018. If you have given to the United Way in the past, please consider renewing and increasing your pledge for the coming year, and if you've not given before, be assured that a pledge of $25 or $50/month to the United Way through payroll deduction is an efficient way to support a vital array of charities and service providers in the community.

Thanks to those who have already made their pledges for the coming year. Members should feel free to contact either of us with any questions about this appeal, the work of the United Way, or if you need a payroll pledge sheet.

In Solidarity,
Sue and Marcus

October 16, 2017

Dear Colleagues,

This morning, more than 12,000 Ontario public college faculty are on strike after talks between the Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU) and the College Employer Council failed to produce a tentative collective agreement. This, of course, includes our colleagues at Fleming College. TUFA will be sending a message of support to OPSEU 352, the local representing faculty at Fleming, along with a cheque for their strike fund.  TUFA members are encouraged to show their solidarity by signing an online petition, reading the latest bargaining update, and visiting the picket lines (especially at the Brealey entrance to the College).  When you do visit the line, be sure to introduce yourself to the picket captain so they can make the most of these acts of professional solidarity.

TUFA members in programs connected to Fleming or any other College are urged to contact TUFA if you have questions about how to meet your own employment obligations without allowing the work of striking OPSEU members to be shifted to members of our bargaining unit.

TUFA is in contact with OPSEU 352 officers and staff to provide support and assistance. We will be monitoring this situation closely and will provide further updates as warranted.

In Solidarity,
Jocelyn and Marcus

October 3, 2017

Dear Colleagues,

We have scheduled the Fall General Membership Meeting (GMM) to begin at 4:30 pm on Tuesday, October 17th (OC 205 / Room 160 at the Durham campus). Refreshments will be provided at both locations, with a reception following the meeting in Peterborough. Attached please find the tentative agenda and unapproved minutes from our last GMM (alternative formats available on request).  Please note: the agenda makes time for an open discussion of Trent’s participation in global solidarity initiatives, as well as TUFA’s role in relation to university governance.

Additional documents (including those pertaining to the Treasurer’s Report and Audit) will follow in an email.

Per the Association’s “Policy on Payment for Care of Dependants,” individual members anticipating such expenses related to attendance at this meeting should contact the TUFA office to arrange for reimbursement.
